WRDS provides opportunities to write algorithms and analyze data directly on our platform. This includes the WRDS Cloud Unix server and web-based applications such as Jupyter, SAS Studio, and R Studio. Researchers may also download data to process elsewhere. When copying data off the platform please respect data vendor requirements, WRDS Terms of Use, and data security practices in general. When in doubt, please refer to the vendor's data use agreement or contact the vendor.

Sharing data inappropriately, whether purposeful or not, could have significant consequences for the researcher and their institution. Lack of data protection diminishes WRDS' ability to offer innovative data and also harms the data vendor.

Please follow these guidelines when downloading data. They apply whether data is downloaded to your personal laptop, to an institution's server, a cloud provider, or elsewhere.

• Data should be deleted when no longer in use, when your affiliation with the subscribing institution concludes, or when the subscription with the data vendor ends.
• Store data in a secure, private location or apply permissions such that only you have access.
• When working with a co-author, please follow the WRDS co-author guidelines.
• Maintain responsibility for the data. Even though most data subscriptions cover your entire institution, it is not appropriate to post the data on a central server. Those less familiar with WRDS and these guidelines could easily make more copies and share more widely than permitted without your knowledge.
